nervi nervorum
- John Marshall(1818〜1898, Royal Collegeの解剖学者、外科医):1883年のBradshaw lecturer(Nerve-stretching for the relief or cure of PAIN)
[Marshall proposed in his lecture that ramifying within the epineurium of the nerve sheath is a "nervi nervorum" that contains branches from the nerve itself. He argued that these tiny nerves are sensitive to pain, particularly when the nerve is subjected to pressure.]1/2

[The nervi nervorum constitute the intrinsic innervation of nerve sheaths. Recent studies have revealed nociceptors with multiple receptive fields that branch within the nerve sheaths and to other deep tissues. Their sensitivities and anatomic location combined with scientific and clinical evidence implicate nervi nervorum in neuropathic and other chronic pain. It is proposed that, besides signaling pain from direct stimulation, nervi nervorum play a role in initiating events leading to these syndromes. Stimulation of nervi nervorum may also maintain central nervous system changes thought to occur in chronic pain states.]
