Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, Institute of Science Tokyo

We aim to build a society that supports individual growth and family recovery by connecting small acts of trust. Experiences such as abuse, poverty, and loneliness can have lasting effects across the lifespan, often making it difficult for individuals to trust others or seek support. Our work is grounded in the belief that even in moments of deep emotional pain, recovery is possible. We envision a society where children and families are supported by people who are “safe enough to trust,” and where no one is left isolated, regardless of how differently they may see or experience the world.

Our research addresses complex mental health challenges through interdisciplinary and innovative approaches. While rooted in nursing and health sciences, we actively integrate perspectives from fields such as engineering and information science. Using methods ranging from epidemiological analysis to emerging technologies like AI, virtual reality, and digital twin systems, we seek to better understand real-world conditions and develop new forms of care. By thinking beyond conventional frameworks, we aim to generate meaningful solutions to pressing social issues and to deepen authentic human connections through science and technology.

We welcome prospective graduate students—especially those with international and interdisciplinary backgrounds—who are interested in exploring new approaches to mental health. Students have opportunities to engage in seminars and collaborative research across disciplines. If you are motivated to rethink care and contribute to a more inclusive and supportive society, we invite you to join us.
