The term for board members is 3 years. Board members are selected at the annual meeting held at the Lao National Health Research Forum (NHRF).
History
In 2012, the consortium invited Prof. Boungnong Boupha who is presently a Diet member, Dr. Souraxay Phormmala and Dr. Sengchanh Kounnavong from the Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute (formerly, The National Institute of Public Health, Lao PDR), , to the symposium at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto.
In 2008, Prof. Pommeck Daraloy (the former Minister of Health) and Prof. Boungnong Boupha (the former director of the National Institute of Public Health) visited the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Tokyo and the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto.
The Consortium for Lao Health Research was established in 2003. The consortium organized a number of symposiums in Japan as well as in Lao PDR, in collabolation with the Lao health authority.
The Lao National Health Research Forum
Background and objectives
The National Health Research Forum (NHRF) has been annually organized by the National Institute of Public health with its research partners the Japanese Consortium for Health Research in Lao PDR namely the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature of Japan, the Institute for Research and Development, France, and the Concern Worldｗide.
One of the recommendations from the national workshops to develop long terms strategic plan towards enhancement of the national health research system (NHRS) held in August 2006 was to launch the annual National Health Research Forum (NHRF) to promote health research system strengthening in Lao PDR.
The first NHFR was started in the year 2007 and successfully organized, and then the following NHRFs were held annually. This is the forum for policy makers and research partners from the participant countries discussing various health research findings. Additionaly, the NHRF focused on and highlighted the topics on research toward achievement of the health related Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) in tne early phase and recently Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) .
