本日、医学生理学クイズ日本大会オンライン2025(PQJO2025)が、札幌医科大学の医学生の主催で開催されました。
世界12ヶ国(中国、チェコ、インドネシア、日本、ナイジェリア、パキスタン、ペルー、スロベニア、台湾、タイ、ウズベキスタン、ベトナム）から77チームが参加しました。
予選ラウンドから、難問かつ良問の連続で、すべての問題に解説がついています。
昼休みには、シドニー大学のAndrew Moorhouse教授による生理学講義があり、脳神経細胞に関する最新の研究成果に目を開かされました。
準決勝ラウンドでは、聴覚の神経経路、胚の発生の順序、動脈硬化の順番などの並び替え問題が続きました。結核菌、ヘルペスウイルス、HTLVウイルスとその病理像を対応させる問題など、工夫を凝らした面白い問題が続きます。
準決勝ラウンドを終え、以下の5チームが決勝に進みました。

決勝ラウンドは早押し問題です。
filtration fractionを計算させる問題では、計算に長けたチームから電光石火ですぐに正答が出ました。対光反射を司る部位は? 視蓋前野。サクビトリル代謝を行う酵素は? ネプリライシン。甲状腺濾胞細胞でサイログロブリンをイオン化するのは? TPO。次から次へと即答が続きます。白熱した戦いの末に、決勝ラウンドが終了し、優勝チームが発表されました。

Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacyは、PQJ2022に続いて2回目のPQJ優勝となりました。

私はPQJ事務局長として閉会式でスピーチを行い、ここで培った経験を元に、医療者同士の国際協力を進めていくきっかけにしてほしいと伝えました。
大会終了後はオンライン懇親会で参加者同士の親睦を行いました。ここで生まれた絆がこれからも続くことを、期待しています。
次回のPQJは2026年3月21日に香川大学で行われる、現地開催のPQJ2026です。世界中の医療系大学生と会えるのを楽しみにしております。

Today, the Physiology Quiz in Japan Online 2025 (PQJO2025) was successfully held, organized by medical students from Sapporo Medical University.
We welcomed 77 teams from 12 countries around the world: China, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Japan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Slovenia, Taiwan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
From the preliminary rounds, participants faced a series of challenging yet high-quality questions, each accompanied by detailed explanations.
During the lunch break, we were honored to have a physiology lecture by Professor Andrew Moorhouse from the University of Sydney. His presentation on the latest research findings regarding neurons was truly enlightening.
The semi-final round featured sequencing questions, such as ordering the auditory neural pathways, stages of embryonic development, and the progression of arteriosclerosis. The round continued with creative and engaging questions, including matching Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Herpes virus, and HTLV with their respective pathological images.
Following the semi-finals, the following five teams advanced to the final round:
The final round consisted of buzzer-style questions. In a question requiring the calculation of the filtration fraction, the team skilled in calculation gave a lightning-fast correct answer.
“What part of the brain controls the pupillary light reflex?” — Pretectal area. “What enzyme metabolizes sacubitril?” — Neprilysin.
“What iodinates thyroglobulin in thyroid follicular cells?” — TPO. Immediate answers followed one after another.
After a heated battle, the final round concluded, and the champion was announced.

This marks Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy’s second PQJ victory, following their win at PQJ2022.

As the Executive Director of PQJ, I delivered a speech at the closing ceremony. I expressed my hope that the participants would use the experience gained here as a catalyst to foster international cooperation among medical professionals.
After the tournament, we held an online social gathering to build friendships among the participants. I hope that the bonds formed here will endure.
The next event, PQJ2026, will be held in person at Kagawa University on March 21, 2026. I look forward to meeting medical students from all over the world.
