As part of the Graduate School of Medicine, the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health provides education and research in the fields of epidemiology and environmental health. A characteristic of the Department is that it provides a place for a variety of individuals to utilize their own experiences to conduct research, including recent graduates who have advanced directly to a graduate program, resident physicians, working people, and non-medical majors. |
[Research]
Researchers in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health use epidemiological methods to target human groups and organizations to examine the impact that society, lifestyle, work, and the overall environment have on health and disease.
We emphasize interdisciplinary and international research, and are currently focusing on the following areas of environmental and industrial health.
- Exposure of pregnant women to environmental factors and its impact on the fetus
- Evaluation and measures related to psychological health in the workplace
- Utilization of local resources for early-stage intervention in psychological disorders
- Epidemiology of risk factors for developmental disabilities
- The biological effect and mechanism of trace elements
- Other
[Instruction]
The Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health strives to provide students with the basic proficiencies and educational procedures that will allow them to establish and implement issues (research design) as required to work as self-sufficient researchers, as well as the ability to analyze data and write papers. In the field of epidemiology, the Department provides instruction on the fundamentals and application of epidemiological research design, statistics, and other research methods. In addition, guidance is provided regarding literature review and the creation of papers, with the aim of presenting original papers in English. In the case of some research themes, individuals can experience onsite work as industrial physicians or public health physicians. When desired and necessary, the Department will make arrangements for study at other locations domestically (other universities, laboratories, etc.) or for overseas study (MPH course, etc.). In the field of environmental health, the Department provides instruction on research methods related to the measurement of trace elements, from the basics through application, targeting the living organisms, environment, food, and other items related to the established theme. Individual consultation is also available for dissertation research themes in addition to those indicated above. We place emphasis on the development of researchers and educators who have the ability to compete internationally and who will be active at domestic and overseas universities and research institutes in the future. Feel free to contact us by e-mail or telephone with any questions. |

- As a recipient of a Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology University Reform Assistance Grant, and as a designated graduate school site for the Graduate School Education Reform Support Program, the Cancer Professional Development Plan, and the Program for Acceleration of Internationalization of University Education, as well as a participating university in programs to promote the development of high-quality medical personnel to respond to regional medical needs and other societal needs, the University provides a thorough education in latter-phase clinical training in the physician career path. A curriculum for acquiring qualifications as a specialist is also available.
- The purpose of graduate school is to create a foundation for the individual’s own research. Juntendo University is a gathering place for a large number of researchers from diverse fields, with a deeply international approach. The excellence of this research environment has attracted a large amount of public and private research funding as well as endowed chairs from large-scale public subsidy projects and the private sector.
- All who gather at Juntendo University understand and enjoy the school motto “Jin” (virtue, benevolence, and humanity), develop a sense of camaraderie as “Juntendo people” based on a foundation of self-improvement, the principles of competition, and mutual trust, inheriting a sensibility that values “Jin,” and engaging in education, research, and medical treatment that are grounded in high ethical standards.
