12月21日に、東京都看護協会の駒形朋子先生による「世界とつながる看護」特別講義を開催しました。以下は学生からのレポートです。
今回のセミナーでは「世界とつながる看護」をテーマに、駒形先生の海外での活動経験をお話ししていただきました。私はこの講演のなかで印象に残ったことが２つあります。
1つ目は、宗教の医療・看護への影響についてです。私はイスラム教では豚肉を食べてはいけないことや、女性は夫と家族以外には肌の露出をしてはいけないことは知っていました。しかし、決められているから食べないぐらいの感覚かなという認識だったため、イスラム教徒にとって豚肉を食べることは日本人にとって人肉を食べるようなものと聞いて驚き、知識としては知っていても理解はできていなかったと感じました。今後、イスラム教徒の患者さんと接する機会がある時には病院食や担当医師・看護師の性別など、看護をするうえでも宗教を理解して配慮することを心掛けたいです。
2つ目に印象に残ったことは、「看護師免許は人生のパスポート」という言葉です。私はなんとなく一度就職したらずっと同じ場所で働き続けなければいけないような気がしていました。しかし今回駒形先生のお話を聞いて、働ける場所は病院だけではなく、さらには日本に限らなくてもいいということ、何かチャレンジしたいことができたときには一度仕事を離れても看護師免許があれば戻れる場所があるということを学び、少し将来への自信がつきました。
この他にも興味深いお話を聞かせていただき、非常に勉強になりました。これからは挑戦することを恐れず、駒形先生のように様々な経験を積んでいけるようになりたいと感じました。
On December 21, 2022, Dr. Tomoko Komagata from the Tokyo Metropolitan Nursing Association presented a special lecture titled “Nursing Connecting with the World.” The following is a report from a student who attended the lecture.
The seminar focused on “Nursing Connecting with the World,” during which Dr. Komagata shared her experiences working abroad. Two aspects of the lecture left a lasting impression on me.
Firstly, the influence of religion on medicine and nursing was striking. I was aware that Muslims are prohibited from consuming pork and that women are not allowed to expose their skin except to their husbands and family members. However, I was surprised to learn that for Muslims, eating pork is akin to Japanese people consuming human flesh. I realized that even though I possessed this knowledge, I didn’t fully comprehend it. In the future, when encountering Muslim patients, I aim to better understand their religious beliefs and take into consideration factors such as dietary restrictions, the gender of their healthcare providers, and other aspects of nursing practice.
The second noteworthy point was the statement that “a nursing license is a passport to life.” I had previously believed that once I obtained a job, I would have to remain in the same position for an extended period. However, Dr. Komagata’s talk illuminated the various opportunities available to nurses, both within Japan and abroad. I learned that with a nursing license, I could return to the profession even if I left to pursue new challenges.
Dr. Komagata’s insightful lecture provided me with valuable lessons. Going forward, I am inspired to embrace diverse experiences and face challenges fearlessly, just as she has done.
