Overseas Remote Second Opinion (ORSO) is an online second opinion available for people living abroad. The purpose of this program is to provide a reference opinion by our specialist doctors based on medical information and data received from the patient. Please note that no medical treatment such as consultation, examination, treatment, or prescription will be performed during this program.

Flow of Overseas Remote Second Opinion

STEP01:Application

  1. Confirm the consent form, etc.

    If you wish to receive an Overseas Remote Second Opinion, read"Consent Form on Overseas Remote Second Opinion"and"Basic Policies on Personal Information Protection for Overseas Remote Second Opinion at Kyushu University Hospital."You will need to agree to the terms and conditions before making an application.
  2. Fill out the application form

    Enter "Patient Basic Information" on the application form from the"National University Medical Cooperation Network“below.

    ※Fill out all required fields on the application form. For questions regarding medical care, enter your answers based on the assumption that you will receive medical care in the future.

    ※If a relative within the second degree of kinship is attending on behalf of the patient, the patient's“Power of Attorney"is required.

STEP02:Approval Process

  1. Sign the consent form

    We will reply to the patient at the email address entered in the application form. After receiving our reply, please print out the “Kyushu University Hospital Instructions and Consent Form on Overseas Remote Second Opinion for International Patients,” sign it, and send the last page (with your signature) to our center by email after scanning or taking a photo of it.
  2. ④ Send remote second opinion questionnaire and medical information

    Please download the “Remote Second Opinion Questionnaire,” fill in the required information, and send it along with your medical information or data translated into English or Japanese to our center’s email address. If you have image data, please send it as a DICOM file attachment. If it is difficult to send by e-mail, send by mail.

    Basic patient and medical information will be reviewed by our doctor in charge and discussed with a doctor in the relevant department.
    ※Submit the required information within 1 month of filling out the application form; after 1 month, you will need to make an application again. We will not return any materials sent by mail.

STEP03:ORSO Preparations

  1. Make payment

    Fee:110,000 JPY

    If our department determines that Overseas Remote Second Opinion is possible, we will e-mail you information on how to pay the fee. Please make payment by the date and time specified by our hospital and be sure to pay in Japanese yen only, and bear all handling fees.
    ※You will be billed again if there is a shortfall in the amount of payment to our hospital due to handling fees or other reasons. We appreciate your understanding.

    【Cautions】
    ■ Once payment is made, no refunds will be made for any reason.
    ■ Please inform us of the completion of payment by e-mail.
    ■ When payment is made by bank transfer, the transfer statement will serve as the receipt. If you require an official receipt, please let us know.
  2. Adjust the schedule

    After confirming payment, we will adjust both a date of pre-connection test and an actual date of ORSO. We will also ask the device information and communication environment of all the patient-side participants.

    ※Please understand it may take some time to adjust the schedule.

  3. Preparation in advance

    Please install the web conferencing app Zoom (or Webex) on the device you will use for the consultation in advance, and conduct a self-test beforehand.

STEP04:ORSO Session and Follow-up Procedures

  1. Implement the overseas remote second opinion

    Please enter the session at the time designated by our hospital (about 20 minutes before the consultation starts). At that time, we will verify the identity of the participant or their representative. The consultation will last up to 60 minutes. The doctor will basically respond to the questions entered in the questionnaire (up to 10 questions). The session time will not be extended due to the patient's late entry.

  2. Create a written opinion

    After the session, our doctor will create a written opinion. We will send it to you by e-mail.
