A new study from the Kosei Sato Lab has been published in the Journal of Neurogenetics.
In this research, they identified a cis-regulatory element, ceMOi (cis-element for MOL induction), that controls the expression of the male-specific transcription factor fruitless (fru) in the motor neurons that induce the formation of the male-specific muscle Muscle of Lawrence (MOL) in Drosophila.
They further demonstrated that ceMOi is essential for MOL formation, revealing part of the gene regulatory mechanisms that underlie the establishment of sexually dimorphic neural circuits.
Congratulations!
