DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
This department was established in 2000 within School of Public Health. The primary research and teaching endeavor is to provide scientific bases for the reduction and the management of environmental risks. This goal is achieved by dissecting complicated interactions among environmental, social, occupational, life-style and genetic factors. Our major methodology is health risk epidemiology, which enables us to analyze these factors and to incorporate them in risk assessment. The department is responsible for instruction in health environmental sciences with emphasis on risk assessment for master's course students. For doctoral students, we offer a 3-year-research training course in health risk epidemiology for environemental, occupational and genetic risks. The major field of research is on genetic epidemiology in occupational and environmental sciences, protein chemistry and enzymology in toxicology.
