Greeting
Toshiharu Teranishi
Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University
I am Toshiharu Teranishi, and I have been appointed President of The Society of Nano Science and Technology. I will devote myself sincerely to this role, and I ask for your continued support and cooperation.
In the new executive team, Professor Yuko Ichiyanagi of Yokohama National University will serve as Vice President for finance, Professor Katsuaki Konishi of Hokkaido University as Vice President for planning, and Professor Kosuke Gonda of Tohoku University as Vice President for awards. Together with the directors and auditors, we will advance the activities of the Society.
The Society was founded in 2003 through the development and reorganization of the Ultra Fine Particles and Clusters Forum, established in 1997. It covers nanoscience and nanotechnology broadly, from materials science to life science, and promotes advanced scholarship across these fields.
The annual meeting is at the core of the Society's activities, providing opportunities for presentation, discussion, company exhibitions, information exchange, and networking. The Society also recognizes young researchers through awards for oral and poster presentations, and its subcommittees host specialized symposia across nanostructures and physical properties, nanofunctions and applications, and nanobiomedicine.
The Society brings together researchers through the shared keyword "nano." Its strength lies in interdisciplinary exchange across physics, chemistry, life science, science, engineering, medicine, academia, and industry. We hope members and colleagues from related communities will use the Society as a place to build networks beyond existing disciplinary boundaries.
With the transition in presidency, the executive team and committees have been renewed, and participation by women researchers and industry members has expanded. With interdisciplinarity and diversity as our driving force, we will continue working for the further development of the Society.
June 2025
