Vision and History

As of 2005 when this Society was established, there was very little research being done in Japan regarding perinatal loss. This Society seeks to create an environment in which families all over Japan who have lost their baby can receive desirable care and support, and we are addressing this with a unified approach of research activity, practical activity, and educational activity. Society members started the self-help group "Guardian Angel St. Luke's Society" in September 2004 at the St. Luke's College of Nursing Research Center for Development of Nursing Practice, and began support activities for the bereaved. The Society was established the following year, as a place for debate and mutual support for educators and graduate students researching this topic. We are pursuing research of perinatal loss through joint research and mutual support of individual member research.

Major research activities thus far have included booklet development and Angel Kit development. Practical activities have included operation of the Guardian Angel St. Luke's Society, and educational activities have included implementing the Perinatal Loss Nursing Staff Training Program.
