The Japanese Society for Safety Promotion (JSSP) Advancing Injury Prevention Through Evidence-Based Safety Promotion The Japanese Society for Safety Promotion (JSSP) is a multidisciplinary academic society dedicated to advancing research, education, policy, and practice in Safety Promotion. Our mission is to reduce injuries and improve community safety through evidence-based interventions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and knowledge translation. Safety Promotion recognizes that many injuries resulting from road traffic crashes, falls, disasters, violence, and other hazards are predictable and preventable. By integrating expertise from medicine, nursing, public health, education, engineering, psychology, social welfare, and public policy, the Society seeks to translate scientific evidence into effective action. We welcome researchers, healthcare professionals, educators, policymakers, students, and community practitioners who share our commitment to creating a safer and healthier society. About Safety Promotion Safety Promotion is an evidence-based and interdisciplinary approach to preventing injuries and reducing risks associated with accidents, disasters, violence, and other threats to health and well-being. Rather than viewing injuries as unavoidable accidents, Safety Promotion emphasizes that injuries can often be anticipated and prevented through scientific research, education, environmental design, legislation, and community-based interventions. One example is bicycle safety. Serious head injuries sustained in bicycle crashes can be substantially reduced through helmet use. Japan's legislation introducing a legal duty to make reasonable efforts to wear bicycle helmets (effective April 2023) illustrates how scientific evidence can inform public policy and promote safer communities.
