首、背中、肩の障害や、上半身の障害を抱える人への環境整備として利用できます。 人間工学的な手持ち道具には、手首の曲がりを最小限に抑えて、自然な姿勢を保つよう設計されたものがあります。 軽量な工具を利用すれば、肩への負担を減らすこともできます。 手に合わない手袋、尖ったもの、指一本でしか操作できない引き金スイッチなど、身体的なストレスの原因になるものは避けるべきです。 工具から伝わる振動を最小限に抑え、重量のある工具はできれば工具吊りから吊るしておくとよいでしょう。 はさみやペンチにばねを取り付けるのも、人間工学に適った設計といえます。
