| 1979年 | IASPの用語委員会（chairman: Harold Merskey）が痛みと、18の関連語を定義した。 （18の関連語：allodynia, analgesia, anaesthesia dolorosa, causalgia, central pain, dysaesthesia, hyperalgesia, hyperesthesia, hyperpathia, hypoalgesia, hypoesthesia, neuralgia, neuritis, neuropathy, nociceptor, noxious, pain threshold, pain tolerance level）

| 1986年 | IASPは「Classification of chronic pain : descriptions of chronic pain syndromes and definitions of pain terms」 Subcommittee on Taxonomy ; editor, Harold Mersey [Pubmed]を発刊した。 causalgia と RSDとを明確に区別し、RSDを「外傷後に交感神経の過剰緊張を伴って主に四肢に起こる持続性の疼痛」と定義した。 |
| 1994年 |  IASPは「Classification of Chronic Pain：descriptions of chronic pain syndromes and definitions of pain terms, second edition」（Harold Mersey, Nikolai Bogduk）*を発刊した。IASPは慢性疼痛の分類で、名称に「sympathetic」という用語を含まないCRPSという新しい名称を作って、RSDとカウザルギーがCRPSにまとめた。RSDをCRPS type I、カウザルギーをCRPS type IIとした。また、neurogenic painとneuropathic painが分けられた。 |
| 2008年 | 2007年11月 IASPのcouncilが京都で開催され、痛みに関する用語の改訂版「IASP 基本痛みの用語 京都議定書（The Kyoto protocol of IASP basic pain terminology）」を2008年にWEB上で公開することが可決され、この原案が機関誌Painに公表された。neuropathic painの定義が変更となり、nociceptionやnociceptive painも初めてIASPで定義された。 Loeser JD, Treede RD. | 2011年 | IASP PainTerminologyが改訂された。nociception/nociceptive pain/neuropathic pain等も定義が改訂された。

| 2017年 | IASPの用語委員会（委員長Eva Kosek）は慢性疼痛の第3の機構分類として、nociplastic painを採用した。nociceptive painやneuropathic painの定義も提案された。 1/2/3
