Study on environment and allergy
Studies on the mechanism of occurrence of allergic diseases (hay fever, asthma, atopic dermatitis) and their prevention methods due to environmental factors surrounding living such as polluted chemicals, pollen, house ticks, etc. are accompanied by eosinophil activation We focus on production of reactive oxygen species, active nitrogen species and degranulation of mast cells.
Study using acaca racemic mice
Mice with low catalase activity in blood and various organs are raised only in Japan. The characteristic of this mouse is its weakness to oxidative stress and its high carcinogenicity. Using this mouse, we are planning to develop new experimental models and new oxidative stress biomarkers.
Study on elucidation of the mechanism of the influence of occupational stress on health and its prevention
I am doing the above work area survey. In 2009 we clarified the mechanism of the relationship between mental stress in the workplace and metabolic syndrome observed in the large cohort in the UK. Currently we are studying the health protection effect of feeling useful to others.
Development of biomarkers capable of predicting the onset of lifestyle diseases
Arteriosclerosis and obesity are recognized as low-level persistent inflammation. We newly found a functional protein very similar to hs-CRP, a world-famous inflammatory biomarker. We have developed a method for measuring this protein, and its preventive medicine evaluation is carried out using health diagnosis / disease patient serum.
Establishment of disease prevention and prevention medicine using stem cells
As a new mechanism of asthma, we discovered the shortage of nitric oxide (NO) by expression of arginase and is developing a new preventive method. As its application, we aim to establish a disease prevention method by introducing stem cells, using model mice such as asthma and arteriosclerosis.
Biological effect of protein in the atmosphere
We discovered that proteins are present in suspended particulate matter (PM), which is commonly present in dust and atmospheric air coming from the continent. Currently, we are carrying out its biological effects on collaborative research with the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and formulate new environmental standards in the future.
